If you like photography from a travel writers perspective this book is for you. Aldo Pavan is an Italian travel writer and photographer and takes us on a 1,500 mile journey from the Himalayan glaciers ending at the “thousand fingered delta†into the Indian Ocean. Along the way we meet pilgrims, fishermen, farmers, merchants , snake charmers and many others whose lives are affected by the river. Each year millions of pilgrims are drawn to all sections of the river to celebrate rituals, be blessed or simply die and have their ashes scattered on the river. I really enjoy the editing, layout and color printing of many Thames and Hudson coffee table books. This one is 10 x 10 inches with over 267 illustrations, 253 in color and almost one third are beautiful“crossover†photographs. Although the text pages are limited, the book’s layout flows because Pavan puts lengthy captions next to most of his photos that are just as informative as his text pages ( 24 pages total ). It’s all about the timeless photography ! Enjoy your trip down the Ganges.
