This little book is loaded with ideas that will inspire and get your creative juices flowing. I just need to look at a few pages to get some ideas. Great little book.
This is for a beginner. The book is small in size and only has 50 pages in it. Two of the pages seem to hype Zentangles, a book advertised on the back cover. It is in full color. Another two pages are given over to completing a store bought owl book. No template is given for this so you'll have to buy the owl book if you want to do it.Each tip is given a number with a sentence or two underneath it. There are no real instructions, no templates, no steps, how to's, etc.The "tips" are mostly basics (tip #91-add fabric; tip #92-add buttons; etc.) that anyone crafting for any length of time knows already.Some tips don't even qualify as "tips" (tip #125-Embellish the Page... Yep, that's your tip.)Many tips are repeated (tips #83 & 127 are simply called "Bookmarks" while tip #25 is called Handy Bookmarks; tips #16 & 82 are Safety Pins).Other "tips" are nothing more than something she did on some page and not a tip at all (tip #121 Brown Page; #119 Lips...because she made a brown page or put lips on a page. No tip, just showing you something she did once. How is that a tip???).But the worse part is that I expected gorgeous photo's of art books like on the cover --but you don't get that either. After the first few pages, all the books/pages shown take on a cartoon-y appearance, the complete opposite of the one shown on the cover. In fact, tip #34 is Cartoons Collection (and the "tip" under it says "These are cartoons from my collection. I added bits of scrap paper to create frames." I ask again, how is that a tip???). Here's three examples from the book.If you remove the tips that are not tips, remove the ones that are repeated, and the ones that are her showing you something she did once, you end up with very little which is aimed at beginners.So I have no use for it, it was a waste of my money, I got no tips nor even any inspiration from it. So disappointing.
This book gave me the freedom to just smash everything into a scrapbook in record time! Leaving stuff hanging off the edges makes it so interesting!
This is not a huge or thick book. Read the specs on it in the description and you'll see exactly what size it is and how many pages it has. If you don't read specs before you buy something, then don't complain later and post poor ratings because you didn't know what you were buying! If you buy many art/craft books, you'd know just by the little Panda bear and Design Originals logo on the front cover what size of book you were getting. I own many of them. It's offered at different prices too depending on which seller you buy it from and whether it's new or used. Look just below the price on the one you pulled up on Amazon for other prices also right there on Amazon.I personally think it's a wonderful collection of ideas and inspiration! No, it mostly isn't step by step for beginners, though there are some instructions and materials shown--it's more for ideas and I found a good number of things I hadn't tried before. It's a beautiful, well-organized book with 127 numbered different ideas all illustrated in full color in the artist/author's work style. It's a treasure trove of eye candy for people who like to create this type of journal.I love it, I'm happy to get it for less than half the cover price and still in great condition, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in this subject!
My fault - I should have read the product details and seen that this is a only a 48 page book with small dimensions. I was expecting a larger book with more pages. The up side is that it's small enough to carry in my small purse to read in waiting rooms. I gave this 4 stars because color and pix are great.
I must admit that when I received it, I was disappointed by the size of the book: small and not very thick, the photos are tiny as well, explanations = almost nothing.But once I started reading and looking at the ideas, it is actually a great book which would have needed more means and more space.I am not a big fan of the author's style, but whatever... It is her ideas and techniques which are interesting.I am a big fan of recycling and for me, this book is very interesting and deserves to be read and looked at (there is not much to read).Many ideas are really cool.That is why I recommend it anyway. I just would like a little more of this... Maybe a second bigger book about this subject? I hope so!
If you're an experienced artist looking for inspiration, skip this one. If you're a mid level beginner you'll probably like it. There aren't a lot of details and you need to know products that will work, i.e. there is no glossary of recommended products that you're going to need. The photos are nice and well layer out. The book strictly from the artist perspective.
This should be labeled as a beginner book or Smashing 101. I was SO disappointed in the simplicity of this! Not worth the money unless you are a Brownie Scout leader who wants a simple approach to Smashing for young kids.....ditto for a school teacher. There's nothing wrong with that but an experienced scrapper or Smasher will have no use for this.
This book wasn’t what I expected, for some reason I thought the picture on the book was what I was getting. So, with this said the magazine was about how to build a book like that. I haven’t had the time to try any of the ideas given in the magazine but it is very informative.
